This year, I have the job of co-ordinating the Hospital Fete. Please Email me for a form which is normally circulated at this time, so that I can allocate you a pitch. This year, the aim is to raise £11,000 to buy a PEROMETER. I am reproducing below a letter Freda Hornsey sent to me, simply because she explains so well what the equipment is all about. "May I as chairman of the League of Friends of Buckland Hospital take this opportunity of saying thank you to the Rotary Club of Dover for once again organizing our Hospital Fete. The League and Hospital Shop helpers take charge of the Grand Draw and playa large part in the fund raising. To you all I say, thank you. The project this year will be to raise as much as we can towards a Perometer Machine for the Lymphodema Clinic, costing £11,000 to include a computer. The Clinic opened in September 2002 with Sister Christine Wise completely in charge, this is the only Clinic of this kind in the Dover, Folkestone and Ashford Districts, serving at least 200 patients and steadily increasing. They are in need of a model 400T Perometer, which is a wonderful item of equipment. which will save many hours of work. It measures limb volumes and effectiveness of treatment in seconds, with complete accuracy, which is so essential, reducing risks of human error. We are so grateful to the general public who support Buckland Hospital, not only at the Fete, but all through the year. I am sure you will see from the photographs left that the work Sister Wise does must be a great relief to her patients. If we can raise the money to buy the machine, it would be a tremendous thing to achieve. So, for those of you who are coming commercially please give us a generous slice this year and for those you are giving their time to run a stall please be as creative as possible! We are trying very hard to get lots of things happening on the day to ensure a good flow of people to make it worthwhile for everyone. Perometer imaging systems allow an objective characterization of edema and swellings localized anywhere on an extremitiy. Using an additional software option, they allow the measurement of a patient for compression stockings.
